The origins are from Dr. B.F. Skinner's research, an American psychologist who believed people learn through consequences and therefore behavior can be modified. ABA is an evidence based behavioral modification approach that uses learning techniques and scientific principles to evoke meaningful change and achieve socially significant outcome. It’s a highly structured and data-driven therapy model. Assessing and analyzing the "why" behind an individual's behavior within the context that it occurs leads to an individualized treatment plan where functional appropriate replacement behavior is taught while working to diminish or eliminated the unwanted behavior. ABA Therapy also aims to teach skills across domains, by breaking down larger tasks into smaller and more achievable objectives. These components build upon each other so a larger and more comprehensive skill can be mastered. All treatment plans are individualized to facilitate the growth and development of each client.
ABA therapy is the only proven, evidence-based treatment for autism spectrum disorder. It is also endorsed by the U.S. Surgeon General, the National Institutes of Health, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association. It is one of the few therapeutic options covered by most insurances. Our therapists and consultants are credentialed through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board and uphold the high ethical standards while ensuring quality of care.
Crescent offers ABA therapy, behavioral and special education consulting, and speech-language therapy. Parents/caregivers are provided direct training on the treatment plan, including understanding and implementing utilized techniques and principles to ensure success outside of the therapeutic environment.
